Eric Carmen, singer of All By Myself, Hungry Eyes and Never Gonna Fall in Love Again, has sadly passed away, aged 74.

Eric's wife Amy posted news of the singer’s death on his official website. “It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen,” she wrote.

“Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend. It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy. Please respect the family’s privacy as we mourn our enormous loss.”

Born in Cleveland, Eric co-formed the pop group, Raspberries in 1970. The group released four critically acclaimed albums before breaking up in 1975 and reached the Top 5 with their 1972 hit Go All the Way.

Following the Raspberries' breakup, his 1975 self-titled solo debut created the Top 40 hits All By Myself, Never Gonna Fall in Love Again and Sunrise. However, his next three albums failed to hit such success and he withdrew from the industry for the first half of the '80s.

After co-writing the 1984 Footloose soundtrack hit Almost Paradise, Eric reemerged in 1985 with a comeback hit, I Wanna Hear It From Your Lips. But it was Dirty Dancing that really brought him back with Hungry Eyes becoming a top 10 hit. He also reached the top five with 1988's Make Me Lose Control.

Eric is survived by his wife and two children.
